Urban FabLab, under the scientific direction of Paolo Cascone/COdesignLab, has been selected to participate at the 5th edition of Biennale di Marrakech with the first step of the “African Fabbers” project.

African Fabbers is a social innovation and non-profit project promoted by Urban FabLab based on the idea of bridging the African and the European makers communities through workshops, collaborative projects, talks etc. The project will put emphasis on the open source hardware approach for sustainable technology, with the aim to encourage the creation of a local fab labs.

Fabbers the Marrakech Biennale session :

#WORKSHOP 1 – HOW TO DESIGN AND MAKE A LOW COST A 3D PRINTING …AND BE CREATIVE!
#WORKSHOP 2- HOW TO DESIGN AND 3D PRINT BIG AND ECOLOGICAL PROTOTYPES

Programme

#WORKSHOP 1: we will share with the community the experience of making the first 3d print self-made, transportable, low-cost and off-grid conceived by the Urban FabLab. The aim of the workshop is to explain how to make and use in a creative way a 3d print self-made using recycled and local materials. Therefore we will explore all the process from the design concept to the computer programming to the first 3d printed prototypes.

#WORKSHOP 2: the aims of the workshop, in partnership with Wasp, is to explore how to design and print big and ecological prototypes with clay and other natural materials. The workshop wants to investigate on the computer aided manufacturing process from design to rapid prototyping, combing traditional techniques and the creative use of the Big Delta 3d printing machine.

In the autumn of 2014 the space dedicated to educational activities at Museo MADRE will be transformed in a temporary place of production (FabLab) and testing of a unique combination of traditional practices and advanced engineering, supported by numerical control technology, in order to develop, through participatory processes, prototypes for ecological sustainable living. Will be collected for this purpose the experiences gained during the Biennials of Marrakech and Dakar, as part of a final workshop to be held in September 2014.

Project’s supporters: Fondazione Idis-Città della Scienza (KiiCS program), Fondazione InarCassa, in partnership with ESAV – Ecole Supérieure des Arts Visuels, CFQMAM – Centre de Formation et Qualification dans le Métiers de l’Artisanat, Voice Gallery, Marrakech. The technical partner Wasp will provide a prototype of a large 3D printer for clay and natural materials.
