Biotech Week 2021

As every year Fondazione Idis-Città della Scienza participates in the Biotech Week: a week of events and meetings all over the world to tell a vast and heterogeneous audience the increasingly important role of biotechnologies in improving the quality of our life thanks to their different sectors of application (from therapy to diagnostics, from agri-food to industrial processes, through environmental remediation to renewable energy, just to name a few).
A scientific dissemination event launched in Canada in 2003 and arrived in Europe in 2013 by the will of EuropaBio – Association of the European bioindustry, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the discovery of the DNA structure.
Since its first Italian edition, the Biotech Week has been coordinated and promoted nationally by Assobiotec-Federchimica.

The interactive museum of Città della Scienza becomes the protagonist of the Biotech Week through  some events, both in presence and remote, on the theme of biotechnologies, showing how much they represent a boundless resource, capable of offering solutions to the great challenges of global company.

DNA in one, two, three, four “steps”!
Science Show in collaboration with Le Nuvole Scienza
Saturday 11 am and 3.30 pm

DNA is present in all living organisms, from animals to plants to bacteria. It is the precious “instruction manual” that contains all the information necessary for cells to live and reproduce. Visitors, guided by the communicators of Le Nuvole, will be able to extract the most important molecule of biology and discover the secrets and curiosities related to it in four simple “steps”.

“We turn you into a biotechnologist!”
Laboratory in collaboration with Le Nuvole Scienza
Saturday at 10 am and 2.30 pm
Sunday 11 am / 1 pm / 3.30 pm
Biotechnologies … how unknown! Yet we are talking about a science unconsciously applied already thousands of years ago by man. On the contrary, today, with awareness, they are used to achieve many purposes of common utility concerning biomedical, pharmaceutical, industrial and agricultural processes mainly through the use of living organisms of which the biotechnologist knows and studies the DNA and all the techniques that allow you to change it. We will therefore try to turn you too into … biotechnologists! Like?
Learning about the structure and function of DNA and simulating a gene transfer technique in order to obtain a “genetically modified organism”. Naturally with the help of the science communicators of Le Nuvole.
