Call for international activities – Futuro Remoto: Transitions

The theme of the 2021 edition will be “Transitions”, and the festival will take place from the 23-28 November 2021.

WHAT DO WE MEAN BY TRANSITIONS? Ecological transition, energy transition, agro-ecological transition, economic transition, epidemiological and health transition, digital transition, urban transition, eco-social transition, cultural transition, political transition, gender identities in transit, language transition, …

The XXXV edition of Futuro Remoto will become a physical and virtual agora; with exhibitions, workshops, demonstrations, events and meetings- a great “show of knowledge”

These are just some of the transitions underway, because “getting in transition” is precisely the dimension that today more than ever is perceived at all levels, individual, collective and therefore political, strongly characterizing our reality. Also because today transitions happen much faster than it was in the past. This extreme acceleration in the transformation processes requires a great collective effort so that they are processed at all levels without creating trauma but bringing well-being for the planet and for all of us. And Futuro Remoto wants to explore this dimension of the transition and tell it in all its forms thanks to the contribution of the national and international scientific community which is a great protagonist of these transformations.

The XXXV edition of Futuro Remoto becomes a physical and virtual agora with exhibitions, workshops, demonstrations, events and meetings, a great “show of knowledge” able to get citizens, and especially young people and the school public closer to scientific culture and technology, bringing to the stage highly topical issues. Futuro Remoto is a national and international showcase of excellences for the world of research – research in progress, and research to come – we have had the privilege of being able to witness 35 years of scientific and technical advances, and see just how far international research has advanced in those years. Now we look to the future, using what we have learnt and our collective wisdom to steer the future of science and research in a direction that will benefit us all, for a sustainable relaunch and to fight an environmental debt for which there is no more time to wait. Transitions.

ACTIVITIES OF FUTURO REMOTO

All activities should be interactive and allow for audiences to observe, experiment, and engage with the science being shown to them.

In March, April and May, open meetings will be organized  to all those who want to present a proposal for Futuro Remoto to discuss together on the formats to use. Calendar of meetings is published on the site.

Two different formats are available for submitting your proposals:

1) FORMAT FOR PROPOSED ACTIVITIES IN PRESENCE
2) FORMAT FOR ONLINE ACTIVITIES PROPOSALS

Participants can also submit both formats if they mean to carry out face-to-face activities and other online activities.

Some examples of the remote activities that can be carried out:
Future Remote International_Great achievements are always the result of cooperation and comparison with international partners. A virtual space leads to the discovery of research sites in the world and welcomes representatives of science world from all over the globe for the audience of Future Remoto. The protagonists will also be the many Italian scientists who work abroad.
Research comes home_ Local research laboratories bring science to homes and schools through remote labs and live demonstrations where students, families and the general public can dialogue with researchers.
Café Scientifique _Debates, informal meetings, such as scientific cafes allow everyone to get information and discuss together with experts on scientific, ethical and social issues related to scientific and technological research, to prepare for the choices of a future that is almost upon us.
The object in question_ The researcher presents his research or explains a research topic through some objects. The number of objects can vary from 1 to 3. Max 3 researchers for an event of max 1 hour.
Telling with 10 shots_ the researcher will select ten meaningful and impactful images to explain his research. You will have 3 minutes to comment on each image for a 30 minute slot. Max 2 researchers for a total of 1 hour event.
Super quizzes and treasure hunts_ a way to transmit scientific content while having fun, in a team game, with lots of content to discover and questions to solve.
Some examples of the face-to-face activities that can be carried out:
Exhibitions_Interactive, multimedia and photographic installations.
Scientific laboratories and demonstrations_ Science to be discovered while having fun through laboratory experiences and many scientific experiments.
Science Show_ is a show characterized by a succession of scientific experiments, performed in an ironic and scenic way to amaze and intrigue the public
Scientific speed dating_ To find out in a simple way the research carried out in a face-to-face comparison between the public and researchers. 15 researchers are available to the public per 5-minute slot. The meeting is for 1 visitor with 1 researcher for each slot. The visitor can participate in multiple slots by meeting a different researcher each time. The event lasts 1 hour. The proposer must collect the availability of the group of researchers.
Gaming and Escape rooms_ Games and Escape rooms involve the public in a fun way, involving participants, creating stimulating challenges, intriguing and stimulating critical thinking.

DEADLINE May 14, 2021.

FOR SCHOOLS

Promoting an ever stronger dialogue between the world of school and that of research, in which students and teachers participate not only as audiences but as protagonists is the main objective of the Call for Proposals for  Schools participating in Futuro Remoto.

#SchoolToSchool
For remote activities, the big news this year is the #SchoolToSchool program: are you ready to get in touch with other schools and present your activities? The XXXV edition of Futuro Remoto includes exchanges of activities, workshops, research and curiosities between schools throughout the country!
In particular, each proposing class will have the possibility to:
• Compare and present their laboratories, interactive demonstrations to another class;
• The two classes will be able to meet a group of researchers who work on the issues inherent to the proposals submitted.
Some examples of the remote activities that can be carried out:
In the role of a scientist_A virtual space welcomes young students who, “in the role of a scientist”, will tell and show their most surprising discoveries with experiments and demonstrations.
The object in question_ the students will explain a topic or a themed scientific discovery through some objects. The number of items can vary from 1 to 3.
Telling with 10 shots_ students will select ten meaningful and impactful images to tell a topic or a themed scientific discovery.
Super quizzes and treasure hunts_ a way to transmit scientific content while having fun, in a team game, with lots of content to discover and questions to solve.
Some examples of the face-to-face activities that can be carried out:
