First Euro-Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Summer School for managers of scientific museums

On Friday, April 19, a meeting was held in Granada with the promoters of the Euro-Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Summer School for managers of scientific museums, promoted and organized by Città della Scienza with the two museum networks ECSITE and NAMES, Parque de la Ciencia of Granada, Universcience (better known as la Villette) in Paris, the Planetarium Science Center of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Alexandria, Egypt, the Scientific Center of Kuwait City, Cité des Sciences in Tunis, the Science Museum of Trento, Natural History Museum in London.

The Summer School has received the support of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science and the sponsorship of major international organizations such as UNESCO, the Third World Academy of Sciences and the Parlamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean.

The first edition of the Summer School will take place from 22 to 28 September 2013 in Granada, Spain:  a symbolic city for its history and heritage coming from the intersection between the Arab and Western culture. The 2014 edition will be held at Città della Scienza in Naples: “We will be very happy to host the Summer School in our new Science Centre. It will be an important signal for the entire international scientific community”, said Vincenzo Lipardi, CEO of Fondazione Idis.

Aim of the Summer School is to strengthen the science center in the Mediterranean area and to support the development of new museums in order to build a community of actors professionally involved in the dissemination of scientific culture as the foundation of a new citizenship in the whole area. Lessons of the Summer School will last a week and will be taught by selected international teachers, from leading global institutions of scientific communication.
