Our dear friend and colleague, CEO of the Kuwait Scientific Center, Mr. Mijbil Almutawa, passed away yesterday.

The news is very shocking and hard to absorb but we like to remember the wonderful spirit he had which was contagious to anyone around him.  Mijbil was one of the founders of the NAMES Network and its President for two terms.
Mijbil also helped us sustain EMME, one of the most important projects in NAMES in partnership with our sister network, Ecsite, with Città della Scienza and other relevant scientific institutions.  His achievements and impact do not stop here and he will be remembered for fascinating conversations where we always learnt something new from him; for his humor and positivity as well as his hard work.
We share our condolences with his family, friends and the Kuwait Scientific Center.

Vincenzo Lipardi, CEO of Città della Scienza says: “Remembering Mijbil, I indelibly carved his piercing glance when he asked me during the Science Centre World Congress in Cape Town to build together a place for the dialogue between the Arab world and Europe. The idea of the EMME Summer School is born there, with the scope to build a bridge between close people but divided by so many geographical, political and religious barriers.
Mijbil, who established the most beautiful science center of the Arab world, felt so much the importance of a real dialogue that could give to NAMES – another baby he contributed to initiate- the strength to spread science, but also the culture of peace and cooperation in a land where sometimes religious sectarianism, division and unfortunately war are prevailing.
Mijbil has been for me, first of all a brother, with whom I shared many reflections and visionary thought, but also a person with whom talking about amusing things and stories.
I will miss Mijbil very much and his leadership will miss to the international movement of science center.”
