Città della Scienza renews for the 8th consecutive year its participation at the Ravello Festival with a series of science talks, chaired by our director Mr Luigi Amodio, on the theme of “South”.

The first is on Thursday, July 24, at 6 p.m. with cultural anthropologist Mariono Niola in a conference titled “The Mediterranean diet. Myth, history, science“, together with Paola Iovino, from the University of Salerno, and Elisabetta Moro from the University of Naples “Suor Orsola Benincasa”. The conference will make a journey through Italy, Greece and Spain in the Mediterranean food culture as a way of life.

On Thursday, July 31, the issue will be the history of mathematics between Arab culture and Western culture in a talk titled “From algebra to zero… Mediterranean mathematicals stories” with Carlo Sbordone, from the University of Naples “Federico II” and Accademia dei Lincei, and Claudio Bartocci, from the University of Genoa.

Third and last talk is throwed into the future of our planet: Thomas Stocker, a leading European expert on climate change and a member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) will speak on the topic “Where is the winter? What science tells us about climate change“.
