THE SCIENCE OF SUPERHEREOS | November 23, 24 and 25 2018

Super heros Science!
Tribute to Stan Lee

Every child want to be or become a Superhero? Whether you are in favor of SpiderMan or Batman, followers of the superheroes Marvel or Dc Comics, know that they all have something in common: there is science (in some cases science fiction!) in their powers.

Let’s discover it together with Città della Scienza in a crackling weekend where you can deepen the physics that is hidden behind the flight of SuperMan or how the ultrasound works in BatMan …
Maybe you will not buy superpowers, but, of course, you’ll be young scientists!

LA SCIENZA DEI SUPEREROI_1200x628_eng

Città della Scienza dedicates the weekend activities of November 23rd, 24th and 25th to the undisputed genius of comics: Stanley Martin Lieber, we all knew him as Stan Lee, Marvel editor and publisher.

His great imagination, gave life to characters like Spider-Man, Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four and the Incredible Hulk, who accompanied generations, examples of “superhero with superproblems” as he liked to say.
Taking up again some of these heroes, we will discover the scientific notions hidden behind their abilities. For example, “Strenght like Incredibile Hulk” is the deepening during the guided tour of the Physical Exhibition dedicated to the Physical Strength. How much strength do you need to apply to lift a weight of 30kg? Let’s find out together!
And yet “Check the Climate: Storm of the X-Man” where you can talk about climate changes that are happening globally and compare yourself on the role of responsibility on the part of man.
Imagine the ability to control terrestrial magnetic fields and the behavior of metals, one of all, iron. Here are the Magneto skills of the X-Man. If you want to understand more about electricity and magnetism, “Fatal Attraction: Magneto degli X-Man” is the perfect scientific demonstration for you!
Just talking about 8 legs and 4 eyes, immediately in the mind of each child is formed the image of a “monstrous” and “ravenous” spider! But do spiders really scare so much? If we asked Spiderman, surely he would say no!
Often classified together with insects (but they are not), we learn to know them more closely in “upside down: Spider-Man” through the observation of live specimens, through interactive, dynamic and fun games and manual laboratories all dedicated to the world of Arachnids.
“ANT-MAN: From the infinitely small to the infinitely large” is scheduled for Saturday 24 and will allow you to investigate the biology and the ethology of the ants, thanks to the observation of numerous anthills. You will discover how these beautiful insects manage to communicate with each other and many curiosities about these micro dominators of the Earth.

For the little ones “A Nobel scientist: Mr. Fantastic of the Fantastic 4″, a workshop where they can create a Mr. Fantastic with limbs extending infinitely thanks to the Slime!
“I am the Revenge, I am the Night, I am Batman” is the activity dedicated to bats! These mammals are often victims of unjustified popular beliefs but have extraordinary abilities. Let’s discover them in the company of a naturalist!
And if physics is your job and you can not give it up, follow “Jumping and Flying with Superman” where you can understand how to challenge gravity!
Only Saturday 24th  at 12, in the company of an expert in paleontology and marine biology, Dr. Marco Signore, we will talk about “Fantastic Aliens and where to find them”: within the scenic setting of the Planetarium, you can attend a chat where we will try to answer important questions: would we be able to recognize an alien, if we saw it, what would our reactions be, and how could the inhabitants of another planet be made, an event not to be missed!
And to continue on the subject, Saturday and Sunday, we recommend the show “Far Worlds : The Search for Extrasolar Planets”: In recent years the search for planets that orbit around stars other than our Sun has had an unprecedented surge. Today we know that planetary systems similar to ours are the norm rather than the exception, and the study of extrasolar planets has become the main way to try to answer a fundamental question: does extraterrestrial life exist? In this show we will discover the latest developments and future perspectives of the incredible hunt for the secrets of these distant worlds, perhaps populated by other life forms?
And finally, deepening the themes covered by the temporary exhibition The Beauty of Imaging, do not lose “Mr. Fluorescence, a superhero with dazzling powers” to better understand what Fluorescence is and how it can be treated in diagnostic imaging.
We have inaugurated a new workshop space, the “Children Workshop”! It seems like a complex name, but identifies a welcoming and comfortable place where our younger visitors, from 3 years upwards, can find a child-friendly space, with tables and seats, where they let their imagination flow, and with some exhibits such as “Mirrors” and “Two in one” to accompany them, hand in hand, and step by step, in the world of science.
There will be held on Sunday “In the shoes of a SuperHero” - inspired by the words of a storyteller, children can create a personalized design! Fantasy has no age!
Unmissable our appointments with: “Researcher”: How do you participate in a research project? What is CHILD ROLE? How children are able to influence the choices made by parents, especially in the field of nutrition? And how do parents let themselves be influenced by the presence of children in their choices? We will understand this by participating in this survey and as a tribute for the participants, a tasty snack!

We were looking forward to the return of the most beloved workshop for all children, the “SuperHero Nintendo Labo”! By integrating the new technologies with a good dexterity, discover with your parents “Nintendo Labo”: turn a simple piece of cardboard into something different, a motorbike, a fishing rod, a plane or whatever comes to mind! Then, add a Nintendo Switch console to bring them to life and enjoyment is guaranteed! Win a race, catch a fish, play a keyboard … With Nintendo Switch, everyone can experience the joy of building, playing and discovering. Have fun watching the workings of your creations: you could even invent new ways to play with Toy-Con! Try the new Toy Con set dedicated to vehicles and discover the driver who is in you!

You still have not visited the Corporea Museum? It is the only one in Italy, entirely dedicated to the “perfect” machine of the human body! A guided tour, in the company of one of our guides, will allow you to discover the secrets of our body and experience the exhibits that most intrigue you!
Which fish, molluscs and crustaceans live in the pools of the “Sea” exhibition? Follow the guided tour “Marine Ecosystems” and you will have the chance to caress some living marine organisms in our Touch pool.
And if your children still want to learn, “Invent your marine animals”, a laboratory where they can color fish shapes, inventing new species, and then, as for “magic”, make them appear and swim in a large virtual aquarium .
A guided tour of the “Bugs&CO” exhibition is unmissable, the new exhibition space dedicated to the spectacular world of insects and more. For every man on Earth there are over 150 million insects. “The six-legged giants” have conquered almost all the habitats of our planet … it’s time to start getting to know them better. From October 10th to January 6th 2019, the Science Center exhibition area offer is enhanced with a new and technological exhibition “The Beauty of Imaging”, organized by Bracco Group. The exhibition celebrates the beauty “from within” the human body: an exploration made possible thanks to diagnostic imaging: one of the ten most important discoveries in the entire history of medicine. Today the journey in the body is accomplished hundreds of thousands of times a day, in every part of the world, in order to prevent and cure. And so, traveling within the human body, we discover the extraordinary complexity of the mechanisms that regulate it, the fascinating perfection of the structures that govern it and the general harmony of its functioning. The exhibition completes Corporea perfection, representing a focus that simplifies and disseminates, investigating physics, chemistry, biology, applications and implications of X-rays / CT, Magnetic Resonance, Ultrasound and Nuclear Medicine.
BIT! You do not know him? Come and meet him, he will answer all your scientific curiosities and not only … Where have you been in this time? What adventures will he tell you? Do not miss this appointment with “A Superhero named BIT”.
The Live Show at the Planetarium of Città della Scienza: among astronomers, stars and galaxies, an astronomer expert will tell the public, in real time, all that is shown on the dome of the Planetarium, to offer a unique experience of immersion in the depths of our universe. “Life and Death of a Star” will allow you to retrace all the stages of the life of a star, from birth to death. What are you waiting for? Secure your trip among the stars!
In addition, the 2D show “From Earth to the Universe – From Earth to the Universe” will be at your disposal to discover the most important theories elaborated by man over the course of time in astronomy up to future prospects and, if you can not give up thrill of 3D, the “Robot Explorers” show to travel with probes, landers and orbiters in our solar system. Choices able to satisfy all tastes and needs!
And if all this rich program still has not convinced you to come and visit us, we remind you that only for Friday 23, Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 November 2018, on the occasion of the “Black Friday”, presenting the coupon dedicated to the cashier, you can enjoy the 2X1 formula
