” South of Science – Author’s portraits of great Southern scientists” (dedalo edition) will be presented in memory of its curator Pietro Greco, recently passed away, next Monday December 28th at 11 am in live streaming on the Facebook page of Città della Scienza
There are many illustrious scientists of the last two hundred years belonging to Southern Italy: men and women whose genius has revolutionized the fate of research and contributed to the construction of a scientific heritage that must always be remembered and valued.
This is the theme of the book “South of Science – author portraits of great Southern scientists” edited by Dedalo, expertly edited by Pietro Greco, journalist and writer, recentely passed away, founding member of Fondazione idis-Città della Scienza of Naples as well as a dear friend and colleague.
To celebrate his memory, the book will be presented on Monday 28 December 28 at 11 in live streaming on the Facebook page of Città della Scienza.
Prof. Riccardo Villari, president of Fondazione Idis-Città della Scienza, will open the talk.
Gennaro Varriale, Director of Ateneapoli, will moderate the following speakers: Marco De Marco, journalist and writer and Guido Trombetti, Professor of the Federico II University of Naples.
The conclusions will be entrusted to Gaetano Manfredi, Minister of University and Research.
The intent of the late curator is to show the South from a particular point of view, that of science and scientists. From Renato Dulbecco to Ettore Majorana, from Renato Caccioppoli to Maria Bakunin: the book tells the stories of 14 luminaries born in the South between the eighteenth and twentieth centuries who carried out brilliant scientific activities. And to tell their stories, with one exception, are science communicators in their turn from the South.
