Next June 8th the Oceans Day is celebrated worldwide. The hydrosphere covers more than two thirds of our entire planet, so much so that we refer to the planet Earth as the “Blue Planet”. These huge expanses of water are a resource to be protected: they represent the “home” of many life forms; They play essential roles in the cycles of matter and energy on a planetary level and provide us with many essential foods in our diets.
Next weekend, Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 June, in Città della Scienza we will celebrate the inestimable value of these marine ecosystems with activities, workshops and themed guided tours.
In particular, we adhere to, share and re-launch the theme chosen by the WORLD OCEAN NETWORK for the year 2019 – ‘Gender and Oceans’ – an opportunity to explore the concept of Gender in relations with the Ocean.
This year’s World Oceans Day is aimed at spreading the concept of GENRE and discovering possible ways to promote gender equality in ocean-related activities such as marine scientific research, fishing, and work at sea.
