INSECTS & CO. The living laboratory – The new exhibition areas reserved for the world of insects

With the revamped exhibition Insects&Co. The living laboratory , at Città della Scienza you can delve even deeper into the world of insects and other arthropods through interactive exhibits, display cases with live animals and models of impressive scientific fidelity.

Fascinating new exhibit sections and two areas dedicated to educational workshops, where young children can try their hand at thematic manual activities, expand the original arthropod exhibit.

A journey into the micro-world of six- and eight-legged animals to learn not only what they eat, how they reproduce, where they live, and how they contribute, through their incessant activity, to maintaining stable ecosystems, but most importantly to learn about the importance these animals have on human activities.

The over 400-square-meter exhibition is divided into thematic islands: Evolution of Arthropods, Useful and Harmful Insects, Insects and Biomimicry, Live Laboratory.

The specimens on display will change regularly, so each visit will feature fascinating new items, and on a weekly basis specific insights into useful and harmful insects will also be presented.

Between limuli – marine arthropods that have remained almost unchanged for hundreds of millions of years and are considered true living fossils – arachnids – the taxonomic group to which spiders, ticks and scorpions belong, featured in showcases with live specimens and dedicated films, Myriapods – which include millipedes and centipedesCrustaceans, including isopods and terrestrial hermit crabs – the Insects & Co. exhibition offers adults and children alike the opportunity to admire the wonders of the invertebrate world and also to overcome some fears toward small, crawling animals.

The construction of the new laboratory spaces was funded by the Campania Region through public notice for access to grants to support interventions and activities aimed at the development, promotion and enhancement of local government and local interest museums – Year 2024 – D.D. No. 58 of 14/03/2024 and D.D. 213 of 06/12/2024.
