International Day of Light
The International Day of Light, proclaimed by UNESCO, starting in 2015, for May 16, the anniversary of the creation of the world’s first laser by T.H. Maiman in 1960, aims to promote the central role of light and light-based technologies in science, culture, education and sustainable economic development.
On the occasion of the International Day of Light, Città della Scienza is promoting interactive workshop activities and science shows for the public of families and children. Among the activities that will be offered to the public:
Create your own rainbow: to explain light scattering and the rainbow phenomenon.
Light and shadows: to understand how light creates shadows and the concept of transparency, opacity and reflection.
Construction of a light and color machine: to explain additive color synthesis and how colors of light are formed
The speed of light: to understand the speed at which light propagates.
Optical illusions and light: exploring how light can trick our brains and create optical illusions.
Light and plant life (photo morphogenesis): to explore the role of light in plant growth.
