World Biodiversity Day

According to the most recent research, the known species on planet Earth would be roughly 1.8 million. A number that is already huge in itself but still low if we compare it with those that are supposed to exist but have not yet been classified: from 3 to 10 million species yet to be discovered! Biodiversity, understood as the totality of all living species, represents a unique and valuable heritage that deserves to be protected. The main key to protecting it is definitely knowledge! Join us to celebrate World Biodiversity Day, held on May 22, and learn more about this extraordinary natural treasure!

The weekend is part of the May of Monuments 2025 program of the City of Naples , and precisely inspired by the theme of fire, which will be the main theme of May of Monuments 2025, a number of creative science workshops will be offered to explore the connections between biodiversity and fire, through proposed science workshops aimed at raising awareness of the importance of biodiversity and its links to natural phenomena related to fire. Visitors will be invited to participate in an art and science workshop in which they can, for example, paint biodiversity threatened by fire; all works will be exhibited over the weekend in the workshop area of the Museum of Città della Scienza, thus creating a “biodiversity gallery,” where each painting represents a unique ecosystem and its species.
