The Euro-Mediterranean and Middle East (EMME) Summer School for Science Communication 2017 started today at Città della Scienza!

Twenty-six participants – coming from Cyprus, Egypt, Italy, Jordan, Iran, Kuwait, Italy, Palestine, Portugal, Saudi Arabia and Tunisia – were welcomed today to Città della Scienza and took part to the engaging activities scheduled at the Re-opening for the 2017 – 2018 Season.

In the afternoon, the Summer School was officially inaugurated, in the presence of Sawsan Dalaq, NAMES President, Catherine Franche, Ecsite Director and rapresentative of local institutions.

Maab Azab, NAMES Executive Director, introduced the first Mijbil AlMutawa Award, dedicated to the memory of one of the main promoters of the EMME Summer School who passed away on July 27th 2016. The award was given to Mohamed Elsonbaty, science communication development officer at AUC and freelance science journalist.

Tomorrow the rich programme of workshops and lessons will take life with the contribution of speakers like:

  • Hoda Elmikaty, Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Alexandria, Egypt;
  • Brigitte Coutant, Ecsite Honorary Fellow, Paris, France;
  • Pasquale Russiello with Mariano Iadanza, Director of Business Innovation Center (BIC), and Mariangela Contursi, Director General of Campania Newsteel – City of Science, Naples, Italy.
