Seminaries of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN) and of the Physics Department of the University of Naples Federico II are available at Città della Scienza in Naples as usual. Seminars, addressed to high school students, deal with topics that range in all areas of INFN and Department research and tell the most fascinating and crucial issues of modern physics: from macro to micro-microsm; from the study of neutrinos to the discovery of the Higgs boson and to the concept of mass; from the concept of energy to the physics of the stars and the most catastrophic phenomena of the Universe.
These seminar cycles, which have been taking place in the Città della Scienza for 7 years, must be ascribed to the now consolidated third mission of research centers and universities, which is the fundamental objective that these institutions have to dialogue with society, and to mission ofCittà della Scienza which is the scientific divulgation between formal and non-formal teaching. The aim of these meetings is to combine formal learning (at schools, universities, etc.) with non-formal learning (at museums, aquariums, etc.) to promote skills and careers in STEAM (Science, Techonology, Engineering, Arts and Math) and to help train people able to play an active role in increasingly democratic and technological societies.
