Seminar program at Città della Scienza from 10:30 am to 12 pm.
Title: Physics of Stars
Speaker: Prof. Lucio Gialanella (Second University of Naples)
February 3rd, 2016
The year 2011 marked the celebration of the hundredth anniversary of the discovery of the atomic nucleus by Ernest Rutherford, an event that marked a revolution in the way we understand and live the world.
During these hundred years, thanks to the deep understanding of the core structure and dynamics of nuclear reactions, it was possible to understand how to extract energy from nuclei, such as improving the quality of life and increase durability through multiple medical applications. The prototype of an impressive series of experiments will be described as the Nuclear Physics has produced, over the years, a variety of applications we still enjoy. It will be underlined the opportunities that Nuclear Physics could offer, in the near future, for the improvement of our lives.
