WATER DROP, LIFE DROP – March 17th – 18th

CELEBRATING THE WORLD WATER DAY: “BLUE GOLD” OF OUR PLANET

Chemically composed of two hydrogen atoms and an oxygen atom, water is undoubtedly the most important of all our resources! From the space our planet looks like a “blue marble” because of the predominance of the water element. On March 17th and 18th, Città della Scienza celebrates the world day of water (which falls on March 22nd) with experiments and scientific demonstrations on the “blue gold” of our planet.

Would you like to build an acquarium of you own? With “hands in water” in Città della Scienza, the dream becomes reality! Starting from poor materials, discover the secrets to build a real aquarium in order to reproduce at your home!

Only Saturday, March 17th, in the company of ARPAC experts – Regional Agency for the Environment in Campania we will discover the techniques used for monitoring surface water: seas, rivers and lakes. Discover how delicate the balance of these very important components of the hydrosphere is!

And if physics is your passion, we recommend the activity “Air VS. Water” where, talking about air and playing with water, we will investigate some fluid behaviors through the realization of different experiments. Simple explorations that will allow us to better understand that air, although it doesn’t seem to be, it’s made of matter … sometimes stronger than water!

Do not miss “Microcosmo“, a laboratory where, starting from a diorama that reproduces the seabed, you will realize animal and plant marine organisms to complete “your” microcosm and find out which extraordinary balances allow life.

In recent weeks a wave of cold and cold called Burian has broken down, and all the cities, including Naples, have become white! What a thrill it was to wake up under a blanket of soft, white and shiny snow! But what is snow from the scientific point of view? “Icy” water! Let’s find out the secrets in “Snowflakes” together. Building a nice ice crystal, you will understand that the shapes of snowflakes are wonderful and always different.

And again, this weekend will end the path of alternating school-work classes IV ° A, IV ° C, IV ° G of the Institute of Higher Secondary Education “Francesco Crispi” of Ribera (Ag); the boys will perform four activities together with the public:

  • Chemistry or magic? Water to separate colors

Is there a way to get back the primary colors starting from the secondary or tertiary? In the role of a chemist you can experience the composition and the decomposition of natural and non-natural pigments!

  • Modeling the molecules

All living cells are made up of molecules, mainly complex and large, resulting from the combination of four elements! So, from what elements is the water molecule formed? Get to know the extraordinary characteristics of water and try to build the models of the molecules that surround us!

  • Water & DNA: between physics and biology

Water, a molecule that regulates all the functions of the organism and which, thanks to the research of Italian and international scientists, has been discovered to be endowed with memory and coherence. Is it really possible? And what would this revelation involve? And above all, how is DNA involved? Let’s find out together and try to make the DNA visible to the naked eye by extracting it from vegetable and plant tissues!

  • The water balance of cells

Do you know that many cell properties are related to water? The human body is like “immersed” in water, from the smallest cell to the organism in its entirety. But is the animal or vegetable cell to have the highest water content? What happens to a cell if it is placed in a solution that has a saline concentration different from its own? Let yourself be fascinated by the wonderful world of cells!

The exhibition dedicated to the sea can be visited again! Discover which new fish, molluscs and crustaceans live in our tanks following the guided tour “Marine Ecosystems“. During the visit, you will have the opportunity to touch some live marine organisms in our Touch pool. What an emotion! For the little ones, “Invent your marine animals”, a laboratory where you can color fish shapes, inventing new species, and then, as for “magic”, make them appear and swim in a large virtual aquarium.

Do not miss the guided tour of “Bags & CO“, the new exhibition space dedicated to the spectacular world of bags and more. For every man on Earth there are over 150 million insects. “The six-legged giants” have conquered almost all the habitats of our planet … it’s time to start getting to know them better. Discover all the secrets that have made them so successful in a journey divided into six thematic islands, one more engaging than the other!

In addition to guided tours to Corporea, the first interactive museum on the Human Body in Italy, the special  3D show “Robot Explorers”
