Dialogues on Science and Society
Rome, 1-2 March 2012

Dialogues on Science and Society: “Science, Responsability, Research and Development”.
Thursday 1 and Friday 2 March 2012
Department of Physics, Edificio Marconi, Aula Amaldi, P.le A. Moro 5, Rome.

Society is, today, a complex system, much more then it was just a century ago. In particular, the extreme speed of discoveries and changes in economy, society, science, makes hard to identify the actions to be taken for facing past and future emergencies.

For these reasons, the role of science and technology is fundamental. The old distinctions (not always accepted) between a science pure and apolitical, and a technology interested and potentially dangerous, have even less sense now. Being scientists involves today a new set of duties that must be extended to an educational role. The conference will be an opportunity to meet people who rarely have occasion to discuss in public, submitting ideas, suggestions, points of view, to students and citizens, with a wide possibility to take part in the debate.

During the conference will be presented a play by the acting company Die Physiker, composed of teachers, researchers and students from the Department of Physics, which will put on a show of some pièces related to the conference’s themes.
